To all our Tenorific fans, thank you so much for taking part in our Tito Time competition. We have had some brilliantly humorous responses and with our imminent closure, we want to celebrate all of your comic talents!

Lend Me A Tenor to leave London August 6

The producers of Lend Me a Tenor the Musical have announced the production’s last performance in the West End will be Saturday 6 August.

Producers Martin Platt and David Elliott said: ‘Despite mostly wonderful reviews from the press, great feedback from our audiences and nightly standing ovations, this has not translated into growing sales and we feel it is in everyone’s best interests to close the production on August 6th.’

The stage was set for an epic battle as The Lend Me A Tenor the Musical team took on Les Miserables in a West End Tug of War. Despite a it being a closely fought battle, the heroes of Lend Me a Tenor were victorious! Join us in congratulating the team on yet another fantastic performance!’

The red carpet was well and truly rolled out last night for our glittering West End Premiere. A tumultuous standing ovation topped a performance and cast and VIP guests were treated to a swinging party.

Guest were given treated as any VIP Tenor should be with a menu including potted shrimp and lobster! Amongst the famous faces to congratulate the cast were Gary Wilmot, Robert Powell, Tracie Bennett, Leanne Jones and Lorna Luft.

A Tenor Around Town

No your eyes have not deceived you, a Tenor has been strolling around the West End this last week. Come rain or shine our Tenor has been doing the rounds bringing joy to many, both young and old.

For those who have been lucky enough to catch up with our Tenor we have loved the pictures you’ve sent to us and can’t wait to see more! Please do post them on our Facebook page.

Our Tenor will be out and about this press night, wednesday 5 June outside the Gielgud Theatre. If you spot him can we advise you don’t poke him in the belly? One poke too far and who knows how angry he’ll get!!

Exciting news, Laurence Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding who played Madame Emery in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is to star as Maria and will be accompanied by Cassidy Janson (Kate Monster, Lucy the Slut Avenue Q) as Maggie. They will appear alongside the fantastic cast of Matthew Kelly as Henry, Damian Humbley / Max Michael Matus / Tito, Sophie Louise Dann / Diana.

Following a critically acclaimed run at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2010, LEND ME A TENOR THE MUSICAL, the uproarious new musical comedy by Peter Sham (book and lyrics) and Brad Carroll (music), will open at the Gielgud Theatre on 15 June, with previews from 2 June.

It’s 1934, and the world’s greatest tenor Tito Merelli has come to Cleveland, Ohio, to save its Grand Opera Company by singing Verdi’s Otello. When he is unexpectedly incapacitated, Max, the opera director’s meek assistant, is given the daunting task of finding a last-minute replacement. Chaos ensues – including a scheming soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife, shrimp gone bad and the Cleveland Police department.
LEND ME A TENOR THE MUSICAL is a riotous, unpredictable explosion of mistaken identities and unexpected romance – based on the award-winning West End and Broadway hit comedy by Ken Ludwig.
Matthew Kelly will star as ‘Henry Saunders’ (Executive Director of the Cleveland Grand Opera), Damian Humbley will star as ‘Max’ (Henry Saunders’ assistant, and the opera prompter), Michael Matus will star as ‘Tito Merelli, ‘Il Stupendo’ (the great Italian tenor), and Sophie- Louise Dann will star as ‘Diana Divane’ (Prima Donna of the Cleveland Grand Opera). Further casting will be announced.
This brand-new production is directed by Olivier award-winning director Ian Talbot (High Society, Anything Goes) and choreographed by Tony-nominated choreographer Randy Skinner (42nd Street, White Christmas). The production is designed by Paul Farnsworth, with lighting by Tim Mitchell, and sound by Terry Jardine and Nick Lidster. The Musical Supervisor is Tony Award Winner Paul Gemignani and the Musical Director is Colin Billing.
